Meet your trainer!  Mélissa Bourdeau

As the owner, founder, Sports Performance Coach and Mobility/Movement expert of Evo Studio, I have proven my ability to develop and execute training programs that are relevant for new or experienced athletes.

I am a performance coach who trains athletes of all levels: from Peewee to NHL players. I believe there is a very good way to train athletes at a very high level without the traditional thought process.

I have completed a series of training with the Ottawa Senators and Minnesota Wild. With a varied background and experience as a top-level athlete myself, I will make a great resource for your training.

My philosophy
I believe I can produce better athletes, perfecting the prime of my athletes, while trying to help them on their journey to become better humans and better athletes. I have been working on this for over 8 years, training with intelligent people in the field, and I have realized how much information is out there! I strive to keep learning from the best and apply it to the work I do with my athletes. I am always trying to find people that are more well versed in different fields and try to learn from them and then just continue to evolve my program day-by-day and just continue to chase the perfect program. I think the way that we are going to be training in 5 or 10 years from now is going to be very different than the way we’re training now.

Changing the field
When I first got into this field, trainers would brag about having their athlete on the biggest pick up on a deadlift or the highest numbers on the bench press. That mentality has changed to a more preventative training side. Trainers are being more attentive in this evolving field, a field that I currently call sports science.

My thoughts on training
My off-ice training translates to on-ice success or on-ice results by always trying to keep athletes away from injuries. Because if you can't play, then you are not contributing to your team! But if you are healthy, this gives you an opportunity to contribute and compete at a higher level! I also work on things that will actually help athletes be more mobile so they can have a better skate mechanic, be more stable so they can be more mobile, and also be able to explode in lower positions. I see athletes with a lot of different issues - some of them have been beat up throughout the season - so some of them are actually just trying to correct many issues that come up. I try to build them a foundation; I think the wider we can build the foundation, the higher we can build our house. So I take the time for foundational work with them and evolve from there.

I have been working with athletes to improve not just their physical performance, but also their mental preparation.

Some feedback I have received from client-athletes include mention of improved on-ice performance, overall mobility, increased strength and explosive power.  My athletes love my philosophy and look forward to coming in to train and recognize my unique training system.

You would benefit from training in the following ways:

I would work with you to develop and execute training programs that would help you move better. I have a full understanding of the biomechanics of the sport since I played myself and studied with two NHL teams. I also have a great comprehension of the different needs in players versus goalies.
